In something of a throwback to the glory days of Concorde (but well over twice as long – 8hrs 30mins westbound and just over 7hrs the other way) JetBlue is to introduce a daytime flight between New York and London for the first time this summer. The service leaves JFK 08:30 (all times local) and arrives at Heathrow 20:45.
All flights are operated by single aisle Airbus A321LR with effectively four cabin classes: Business Suite, closed suites (4), flat bed business (12), even more space standard seats (41), and what the airline terms as “core accommodation” in the standard seats (102).
The current JetBlue schedule is:
(all times local)
LHR-JFK 08:25/11:54 & 12:20/15:40
LGW-JFK 10:10/13:50
JFK-LHR 21:13/09:30
JFK-LGW 18:09/06:20 & 19:37/07:50
This continues with an additional LHR-JFK 08:25/11:40. First flight eastbound is effective 25 March with the return westbound service on 26 March.
JetBlue continues with its daily flights to and from Boston into both Heathrow and Gatwick.
LGW-BOS 12:00/15:11
BOS-LGW 19:26/07:10
LHR-BOS 10:05/12:55
BOS-LHR 18:09/05:50
British Airways launched a daytime service between Newark and Heathrow in June 2022, which continues, the flight departing New York at 07:55 and arriving into Heathrow at 19:55. The next service is also British Airways and does not arrive until 06:30 the following day.
TNU’s Editor-in-Chief Malcolm Ginsberg has been reading former Concorde Chief Pilot Mike Bannister’s fascinating book on Concorde, which he will review at a later date, but notes whilst the operating crew night-stopped in New York, for the cabin staff it was considered short-haul (only 3hr plus sectors) and they returned the same day getting back in the evening.
