Planning rail travel any time ahead is not easy due to industrial action by various trade unions. A body of opinion says that it is self-destructing, with staff losing wages, travel costing more in the future, and short- and long-term putting more traffic on the roads.
According to National Rail Enquiries strike action has been announced for the following dates but do check on the website https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/industrialaction.aspx
Wednesday 1 February and Friday 3 February – action by both the ASLEF and RMT unions.
This is likely to affect numerous train companies across Britain:
The following train companies have confirmed that they will be running NO SERVICES on Wednesday 1 and Friday 3 February strike days:
Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Heathrow Express, Island Line, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, Southeastern, Southern, Thameslink, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Railway.
The following train companies have confirmed that they will be running AN AMMENDED SERVICE on Wednesday 1 and Friday 3 February strike days:
Great Western Railway, Greater Anglia (including Stansted Express) and LNER.
