Berlin hotel to open

What the Germans make of the name Hoxton is not yet known, but a hotel named after a rather distinctive part of London’s East End is about welcome guests in Berlin.

Set to open its doors in May alongside the distinctive Stucco facades of West Berlin, The Hoxton Charlottenburg draws stylistic inspiration from the neighbourhood for the design of its 234 bedrooms and public spaces, from the elegant Art Deco motifs of the Golden Twenties. Berlin’s renowned shopping avenue Kurfürstendamm, commonly known as Ku’Damm, is very close by together with world-class design museums, art galleries and exhibition spaces including C/O Berlin.

For foodies it will offer the House of Tandoor, a bold meeting of North Indian communal dining culture and the classic British chop house. An adjoining corner coffee bar opens out onto the street inviting guests to pull up a stool next to the oversized statement windows for what it terms “the ultimate in neighbourhood people watching.”  Signature Hox dishes will be served up in the lobby, which also features a wraparound bar that circles round to an intimate winter garden.

The bedrooms have been designed by AIME Studios and come in five categories: Shoebox, Cosy, Roomy, Biggy and Biggy Up. Inspired by the classical structures which inform the neighbourhood’s architectural landscape, each room is defined by Art Nouveau forms and expressive design details.

The Apartment, The Hoxton’s signature hybrid meeting and events concept, will be located on the hotel’s seventh floor, featuring three flexible private rooms centred around a communal pantry. The Apartment is reminiscent of a 1920’s parlour charmingly set within the eaves of the building.
