ERA 2023 annual yearbook

The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) has published its annual Yearbook, a detailed directory of the diverse membership, as well as a summary of the association’s activities in 2022 and insight into its main areas of focus for 2023. Its appearance comes just a few weeks prior to the group’s Annual Conference set for Nice 29-30 March.

The guide runs to 87 pages of valued information, but there is no printed version available although of course you can download the complete production. (This is recommended says Editor-in-Chief Malcolm Ginsberg, the fine print not easy on the screen.)

The publication equally shares a regulatory review and the association’s environmental activities as the industry continues to work towards a more sustainable future, and includes the latest statistics analysing ERA airline members’ flights and capacity offered in 2022 in comparison to the previous year.

The ERA board consists of 22 elected members.  They are listed, as is the ERA in-house team.

Written by ATR staff a fascinating chapter is headed “Is there a future for regional aviation”.  It is a comprehensive argument outlining regional aviation’s role emphasizing that turboprops are environmentally the way forward for short-haul flying.  It says ATR 72-600 emit 45% less CO2 per trip versus similar size regional jets.  The Italian/French aircraft are compliant with most stringent external noise standards.

ERA membership now totals 261 including six airlines that have joined this year. Airframe and engine manufacturers are listed as is a number of airports which feature regional flights but with relatively small passenger numbers, typically Antwerp (Belgium), Salzburg (Austria) and Shannon (Ireland).  In the UK, London City, Southampton and Southend are members. The suppliers’ listings are a varied group covering the entire panoply of airline support. Aviation Services is another featured section listing.
