Back after two years of being a virtual show ITB returns as the world’s largest tourism trade fair Tuesday 7 March – Thursday 9 March in Berlin.
There is a minor catch in that the event kicks off on Monday 6 March with what is termed “Media Day” and World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launching the Hotel Sustainability Basics initiative, unveiling the verification process for hospitality businesses and announcing its first launch partners from around the world.
The opening press conference starts at 10:00, followed by ’Long-Haul Travel to Europe: What to expect in 2023’ and then Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC timed for 11:45. Julia is joined by Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, Inge Huijbrechts, Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Security & Corporate Communications at Radisson Hotel Group
For many it will be a return to old haunts and meeting ‘friends’ not seen for three years. For some it will be a new experience with around 400 speakers and over 200 sessions under the slogan ’Mastering Transformation’.
Visitors can expect a wealth of fascinating keynote speeches, CEO interviews, panels, pitches, discussion rounds and award presentations. On Tuesday, 7 March at 14:45. at the “Future track” in Hall 7.1a, Caroline Bremner, Senior Industry Manager at Euromonitor International, will talk about ’Future technologies for travel – What’s next?’. Among other things she will ask whether the metaverse headset is becoming a new sales channel or even a travel experience in itself.
At the ITB Speed Networking buyers and sellers from the international tourism industry get together and meet relevant contacts to enhance their business. In prescheduled eight-minute time slots approved buyers and registered exhibitors will have the chance to meet their matched partner. Participation is free of charge. Up to nine-prescheduled meetings can be held.
