Paris Orly airport is a new destination from Cardiff (starts 21 April), East Midlands and Southampton (both 14 April) with daily flights operated by Eastern Airlines in conjunction with Air France. Flying the route is the latest environmentally friendly ATR 72 propjet.
The second Paris airport (about half the size in passenger numbers of Charles de Gaulle) is in fact closer to the Arc de Triomphe than the main international gateway to the French capital, and easier to use. Paris Orly also provides an easy access route to Disneyland Paris, with shuttle buses from the airport to the parks and hotels.
Steve Griffiths, Managing Director at East-Midlands Airport, in effect summed up for all three airports: “This news is a very significant development for East Midlands Airport (EMA) and the region we serve. This partnership with Eastern Airways and Air France opens-up the world to our passengers bringing global destinations such as Africa, the Caribbean and South America within one-stop of EMA. Ongoing connectivity via a major European hub has been a strategic aim of this airport for some time and I’m thrilled that this opportunity has arisen.”
Roger Hage, Commercial Manager, Eastern Airways, used the announcement as an opportunity to point out that the airline has introduced daily EMA flights to Newquay, which also is served three times daily from Gatwick.
