Gatwick has been chosen for the first ever British Airways (BA) Avios-only flight, an inaugural service to Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), launching Friday 3 November. This flight, exclusively for BA Executive Club members, went on sale Thursday 13 April. The offer was incredibly popular with Executive Club members, with the first BA Avios-only flight selling out within a matter of hours. It is also upgrading its catering.
The Egyptian holiday hotspot recently became the latest addition to the network of Gatwick-based BA subsidiary, Euroflyer.
The full schedule is Friday, Saturday, Monday and Wednesday until mid-December after which the operation is three per week. It is BA Euroflyer’s longest narrow-bodied leg, operated by Airbus A320 series aircraft with 30 Club Europe (Business Class) seats and 132 Euro Traveller (Economy) seats for this special flight. All 162 seats on the inaugural flight were available for Avios redemption.
The Sharm-El-Sheik flight offer was quickly followed by four further dedicated Avios-only services from Heathrow to Geneva, giving Executive Club Members the opportunity to book now for travel in February and March 2024.
Tom Stoddart, CEO, BA Euroflyer, said: “We are proud to be operating British Airways’ first Avios-only flight and to do so in conjunction with our inaugural flight to Sharm-El-Sheikh. BA Euroflyer is the only short-haul carrier based at Gatwick to offer a loyalty programme, and now we’re able to offer more value and choice than ever for our loyal members, who are clearly excited to use their Avios for some winter sun.”
Refreshment offerings have now been introduced for customers to purchase in Euro Traveller (Economy), together with new seasonal menus in Club Europe (Business Class). Customers were previously only able to pre-order fresh food, or purchase ambient snacks during their journey.
