Leeds Bradford-based Jet2 continues with its rapid expansion from Stansted with Athens and Rome added to the Jet2CityBreaks’ programme for the summer. According to CAA statistics Jet2 is now Britain’s largest holiday charter company, overtaking TUI. Twice weekly services will run to the Greek capital until 26 November and four flights a week to Rome until 27 November.
A 15th aircraft is being based at the airport as capacity is increased by 10% over last year with more than 225 flights a week. Jet2 is the second largest operator out of the Essex airport.
Steve Heapy, Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to see our first flights from Stansted to Athens and Rome take off.
“Feedback from customers and independent travel agents in the south-east has been telling us that flights and holidays to Greece and Italy are very much in demand for summer 2023, and we know that Athens and Rome are destinations that customers in the region want to get to.
“Since putting services on sale to these two destinations from London Stansted airport, local customers and independent travel agents have been booking getaways to the city break hotspots in their numbers.”
Jet2.com celebrated its 20th birthday on 12 February. On the same date it was revealed that Jet2holidays had become the UK's largest tour operator with an ATOL licence to carry 5.8m passengers, surpassing TUI's 5.3m.
Jet2 now has an active fleet of 110, with this season being the last for the Boeing 757, one of the most successful aircraft of all time.
