Stradom House, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection, has opened its doors in Krakow.
The 125-room property is housed in a magnificent building steeped in rich history, once a church, a monastery, and a hospital, the property tells a story of heritage, art and soul.
Krakow’s vies with Lodz as Poland’s second largest city and has a large modern airport about 12 miles from its centre. It is also close by the Auschwitz-Birkenau murder camps, the words ‘tourist attraction’ not defining the site.
The hotel is situated in the heart of the city, between the Jewish and Royal Quarters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is just steps away from Krakow’s Old Town and Wawel Castle.
Nearby is the factory of Oscar Schindler, his efforts for humanity under Nazi rule, highlighted in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar winning film.
Contrasting Polish modernism with historical artwork has been commissioned from local Polish artists including Przemek Pyszczek, Marcin Janusz and Dorota Buczkowska. Promising a city sanctuary to rejuvenate the mind and body, the facilities also include a stunning 20-metre indoor pool, fully-equipped 24/7 gym and a variety of wet facilities, including a steam room, hydromassage showers, bio sauna, infrared salt sauna and sound room.
The hotel was not open when TNU’s Editor-in-Chief recently visited Krakow. A report on the city will appear in TNU next month. His lodging was the Hotel Rubinstein, not quite so grand, but very welcoming.
