TNU offers congratulations to Cunard who turned a near disaster in a positive coupe after Queen Mary 2 had to cancel North Atlantic crossings due to “technical issues”. In fact the engineering problems turned out to be less serious than at first thought and acting Senior Vice President Angus Struthers was quick to introduce what he termed “The Coronation Celebration Cruise”.
Queen Mary 2 leaves Southampton Tuesday 2 May, spends a day at sea, and then two nights tied up outside the Cunard Building, Liverpool, it’s traditional home, before returning Sunday morning.
QM2 visited Liverpool for the famous Three Queens arrival in 2015. See also BTN “ON TOUR” 22 November 2021.
It’s a bonus for the cruise terminal at Liverpool, not presently on the Cunard programme but keen to attract regular “Queen” visits. Football fans can take a look at the imposing new Everton stadium, a short walk along the Waterfront from the berth, “Cross The Mersey” and visit the many attractions in the city.
"We wanted to provide an opportunity for our guests to enjoy an unforgettable, very special and unique celebration of the Coronation,” Struthers said.
"We also hope that some guests who were impacted by our disruption last week will be able to join us onboard."
Passengers missing out were rewarded with priority bookings for the special trip, and there money back and a 20% credit for future voyages.
TNU was quick to make a booking, it sold out within 24 hours, one of our regular contributors getting a real bargain. He will report in the June issue.
