Making one of his final public appearances before handing over his reins as Heathrow Airport Chief Executive, John Holland-Kaye is Guest of Honour at the next Aviation Club lunch, Thursday 8 June at the Royal Overseas League, Park Place, Mayfair.
In February he made public his wish to stand down later in the year. He last spoke to the Club by video at the height of the pandemic in September 2000.
The Aviation Club timing is particularly interesting as on the previous Monday the Airport Operators Association annual dinner takes place at London's Grosvenor House with Aviation Minister Baroness Charlotte Vere of Norbiton, the keynote speaker.
The Covid crisis brought the best out of Holland-Kaye, seen by many as the leader for the airline industry during the pandemic. It was a very difficult time.
Paul Deighton, Chair of Heathrow, said Holland-Kaye had been “an extraordinary leader of Heathrow,” adding: “During the past nine years, he has worked tirelessly and collaboratively with shareholders, ministers, airlines and other stakeholders to ensure the country can be proud of its front door.”
Holland-Kaye was appointed CEO of Heathrow Airport on 1 July 2014, having joined the company as Commercial Director in May 2009. From November 2012, he was Development Director and was responsible for delivering the £1bn annual investment in transforming the airport. This included the new Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal, which opened on 4 June 2014. Before Heathrow, Holland-Kaye was divisional CEO with Taylor Wimpey Plc, and is a former Managing Director of the National Sales Division of Bass Brewers. He has also worked as a strategy consultant with LEK Consulting for a number of high-profile businesses.
He is likely to reflect on his years in charge of Europe’s busiest airport, the third runway project which he pushed through, and how he sees Heathrow’s future.
