It's something of a misnomer, but you arrive right in the terminal.Once nicknamed the ‘Stansted Slow’ by disgruntled passengers, the Stansted Express between the airport and London’s Liverpool Street station has doubled frequency to four an hour during the morning and evening peaks. Average journey time is around 50 minutes.
All the trains offer a connection at Tottenham Hale, convenient for the Victoria Line Underground and a 20-minute walk to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. An alternative train stops at either Bishops Stortford or Harlow Town, although for reasons best known to themselves Greater Anglia trains, the operator, do not highlight on their timetable.
The major problem is that for much of its route the Stansted Express operates as a twin path railway with no flexibility over track use. The Stansted train competes with suburban lines that stop at every station.
Stansted’s Managing Director, Gareth Powell, said: “The reintroduction of four trains per hour between London and the airport during the morning and evening peaks is a really positive development.
“This will not only encourage more passengers back onto trains and out of private cars to enable the most sustainable growth possible at the airport, but it will also make us more attractive to airlines looking to access the UK and invest in the London aviation market.”
While the service will still operate at a half-hourly frequency during off-peak hours, the new state-of-the-art 12-carriage Stadler trains offer over 80% more seats than the eight-carriage trains they replace.

As a past regular user in its early days advertised as 41 minutes its a shame that ticket costs are so expensive. In recent years I have been useing the much cheaper Nat Ex coach taking not a great deal longer to LPL St but also choices to Kings X and Victoria.
