The 80th International Air Transport Association (IATA) AGM and World Air Transport Summit will take place in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), on 2−4 June 2024.
This will be the first time that Dubai and the UAE will host the global gathering of aviation's top leaders, and follows Istanbul this year, and Doha in 2022.
Whilst His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, will undoubtedly chair the occasion, a new CEO is likely to be in place. The much-heralded stepping down of current airline President Sir Tim Clark, is still not formally announced, nor his replacement named. Sir Tim has been at Emirates since 1985 and recently announced record airline profits of US$3bn, a significant turnaround compared with a US$1.1bn loss in the previous 12 months.
Mehmet T. Nane, Chairperson of the Board of Pegasus Airlines of Turkey has completed his one-year term of office and handed over the role of Chair of the IATA Board of Governors to Yvonne Manzi Makolo, CEO of RwandAir. Yvonne Manzi Makolo, who took over the position at the 79th Annual Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of IATA held in Istanbul, is the first woman to assume this duty at IATA and will continue for one year. Mehmet T. Nane remains as a member of the Executive Committee for one more year.
