If you are not up to date with the latest political appointments at the Department for Transport TNU has gleaned the latest updates Friday 4 November.

Mark Harper, Secretary of State for Transport, MP for The Forest of Dean since 2005. He was educated at Headlands school, Swindon, and Swindon College, before studying philosophy, politics and economics at Brasenose College, Oxford. A qualified accountant he is a former Chief Whip.

Huw Merriman MP for Bexhill and Battle since 2015 and chaired the Transport Select Committee since 2020.  He has been given responsibility for rail and HS2, something of a poisoned chalice.

Re-appointed
Baroness Vere of Norbiton has been re-appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Transport having held the position since April 2019. She was previously a Government Whip (Baroness in Waiting) from 2016.  She now looks after aviation and maritime.
