Air New Zealand sleep pods

Sad to say Air New Zealand (ANZ) no longer flies to London and will not even think about it until ultra-long-haul non-stop aircraft become available.

First announced in 2020, ANZ has now confirmed that their Skynest “sleep pods” will initially be available on ultra-long-haul routes to New York and Chicago from September 2024, flown by Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The six-pod Skynest sleep zone will be positioned between Economy and Premium Economy, with each pod offering a fully-flat bed, full-size pillow, sheets and blanket, as well as a separate reading light, USB port, ventilation outlet, and “lighting designed for rest.”

Each will feature a separate seatbelt “to ensure passengers can fasten them and stay in the pod should the seatbelt sign come on during turbulence.”

The airline also said that “The lights will gently come on at the end of each session, and crew will politely wake any passengers who sleep through this.”

Each session is planned to take four hours, with Economy Class passengers charged in the region of US$400.
