With the school holidays coming up the RAF Museum Midlands at Cosford has announced “Horrible Histories – Up in the Air Adventure” running from 22 July until 3 September. RAF Museum Hendon will also run a similar programme. The museum is very accessible close by Colindale Underground Station.
The museum says visitors need to experience the (sometimes gruesome) history of flight in Horrible Hangar 1. This is a fully interactive involvement for all the family meeting fearless and foolish flyers.
Based on the Horrible Histories book, ‘Up in the Air’, written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown, it is bringing characters from the book to life including truly brainless blunderers pursuing the desire to fly!
Legendary aviation pioneer Henri Mignet will be on hand to steer visitors around six amazing adventure zones including the Engineer’s Workshop; Barnstorming Braves; Creation Station; Meet the Inventor; Selfie Zone and the Up in the Air Challenge – all in one fantastic adventure.
Sessions will run three times a day and will last approximately two hours and have been specially created for fearless flyers from age five to 100. A limited number of tickets are currently on sale at £7.50 per person – but hurry, they are flying out the door!
The collection at Cosford is remarkable and includes the National Cold War exhibition, with the three V bombers (Valiant, Victor and Vulcan) and the only remaining Shorts Belfast, now repainted in RAF colours. It flew with more hours for HeavyLift Cargo Airlines than with the RAF and was chartered by the military to carry out the duties it was designed for in the Falklands War. TNU’s Editor-in-Chief was onboard the aircraft, the last built of ten when it was delivered to Cosford from Southend Airport.
