Peninsula London to finally open

With a magnificent setting, overlooking the Buckingham Palace gardens and Wellington Arch, The Peninsula London has set a date to welcome its first guests.

Tuesday 12 September is the day.

The property features a grand colonnaded entrance and also a shopping arcade with nine luxury stores encompassing more than 1,000sq m of retail space. It centres around an expansive, off-street courtyard, landscaped in the style of a classic English garden with cascading ivy, wisteria vines, and 120-year-old Japanese maples.

All the 190 rooms and 25 residences are appointed with bespoke furnishings, textiles, and fittings that exemplify the finest of British craftsmanship, as well as mahogany-panelled dressing rooms, luxurious bathrooms of honey onyx and the signature Peninsula Valet Box. State-of-the-art in-room technology includes bedside touchscreen controls for lighting and temperature, personal device TV streaming, and PenChat, a 24-hour dedicated e-concierge service.

Diners are well catered for with Brooklands – a spectacular rooftop restaurant that is both a destination and a journey. The space, which pays homage to the classic eras of British aviation and motorsport, sets the scene for the modern British cuisine of Chef Director Claude Bosi.

On the ground floor is the Canton Blue restaurant invoking the shared heritage of transcontinental sea trade between China and Britain, known as The Maritime Silk Road.

Opening in November, the hotel’s 25-metre swimming pool is a subterranean chamber, whose walls are adorned with intricately crafted mosaic artwork depicting tranquil landscape scenery and whose illuminated overhead light panels change through the course of the day to simulate natural sunlight. The pool is heated and equipped with underwater speakers so guests can enjoy music as they swim; there’s also poolside lounge chairs, and all-day poolside dining.

The hotel includes St Georges Ballroom and a private cinema, both due to open in 2024.

Very close by is Hyde Park with the Palace of Westminster, Harrods and the boutiques of Bond Street are less than a 15-minute walk away.
