Gatwick gains airlines

Passengers at Gatwick can now fly to a choice of 50 long-haul destinations, after the airport announced the arrival of Air Mauritius and Ethiopian Airlines.

For Air Mauritius it is a complete move at the start of the winter season with a six times a week operation. No service on a Thursday. Flight time is 11hrs 30mins but headwinds add one hour to the return.  A two-class Airbus A350 is used for the service. It is in competition with British Airways who offer a Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday flight, also non-stop.

Ethiopian has lost some Heathrow slots and is now down to seven flights weekly to Addis Ababa and is moving into the South London airport from 21 November with services every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.  Its Manchester Airport flights continue with five weekly services via Geneva, which is a fifth freedom service with flat beds in Business Class for the 1hr 35min sector and a full long-haul arrangement at the back end.

British Airways will start flying between Gatwick and Accra (Ghana) in October, following new flights to Las Vegas and Vancouver earlier this year.
