Torres Air Islander over the Straights after which the airline is named.
Following on orders from Malta and India, the utility aircraft producer, founded in 1954, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Australian air charter operator Torres Strait Air for ten new Islander aircraft as part of a five-year fleet renewal programme valued at $25m.
Torres Strait Air’s fleet of seven existing Britten-Norman Islanders form the backbone of the local community and its economy, operating vital sub-regional air transport services across Torres Strait and Cape York Peninsula.
The company’s AOC also enables the operation of international flights between Australia and Papua New Guinea.
All new Islander aircraft feature full IFR glass cockpit technology and an increased all up weight.
