Ryanair launches Norwich

Norwich Airport has received a significant boost with the news that Ryanair is to offer flights next summer making it the airline’s 22nd UK airport.

The Dublin-based carrier joins KLM who operate daily flights to Amsterdam, and Loganair with its East Coast services.

The three initial routes are Alicante, Faro and Malta, all served twice weekly with flights starting on 1 April. In the summer TUI offer Corfu, Dalaman, Heraklion, Ibiza, Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Paphos and Rhodes as destinations whilst Blue Islands serves Jersey.

Norwich is one of Britain’s most remote airfields, Birmingham is 150 miles away, Southend 100 miles and Stansted 90 miles and once called Horsham St Faith. It is owned by Regional and City Airports who also control Bournemouth, Coventry and Exeter airports.  In 2019 Norwich moved a record 530,000 passengers and has aspirations of close on one million by 2030.

Ryanair says it expects 60,000 customers this summer.  The throughput for 2022 was 319,000 passengers and pre-pandemic 536,000 in 2018. It is an important general aviation North Sea support base.

Richard Pace, Managing Director of Norwich Airport, said: “This is fantastic news for passengers and the first time that Ryanair has flown from Norwich Airport. Alicante, Faro and Malta are hugely popular destinations and with twice-weekly flights it means we can offer passengers even more great choice from their local airport. We’re delighted to be increasing connectivity for local communities and look forward to growing our partnership with Ryanair”.
