At the present time there are 191 weekly flights in and out of Ben Gurion Airport Tel Aviv (TLV) according to OAG. The situation remains fluid.Azimuth, Blue Bird, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, Fly Dubai, Fly One, Hainan Airlines, Red Wings and Uzbekistan Air all offer scheduled flights. The three Israeli airlines, Arkia, El Al and Israir are operating as normal including the Eilat shuttle.
Lufthansa returns on 8 January, together with two other companies from the same group: Austrian Airlines and Swiss. The German carrier plans to operate four weekly flights to Frankfurt and three weekly flights to Munich, Austrian will operate eight weekly flights to Vienna and Swiss will operate five weekly flights to Zurich.
Another company that will return on 1 January is the Romanian Tarom airline with twice weekly flights from Bucharest.
Air Europe has announced that it intends to return to Israel starting 1 February and will operate three weekly flights to Madrid which are expected to increase to seven weekly flights in the future. United Airlines is also expected to return from JFK New York starting on 2 February. No news as yet from American Airlines.
Virgin Atlantic is keeping an open mind and pencilled in the London – Tel Aviv route, starting 17 March, with a single daily flight. Sister company Delta would probably follow suit from Atlanta, Boston and JFK New York, all currently suspended.
From the United Kingdom El Al flies from both Heathrow and Luton, but British Airways has not as of 1 January made any announcement regarding returning to Ben Gurion Tel Aviv Airport.
From the UK passengers looking for ‘low cost’ travel should consider Athens as the best connecting point, or airports served by Arkia, El Al and Israir.
