In a surprise move a brand new Glasgow hotel shuts down the week before Christmas.Opened in September 2023 with all the usual high profile razmataz the Virgin Hotel Glasgow closed its doors and fired all the staff on the Tuesday before Christmas (19 December). Residents were asked to leave and future patrons paying direct to the property will have all lost their money. The hotel is a Virgin franchise and the move does not affect other branded Virgin hotels including Edinburgh and New York, where Virgin Atlantic recently celebrated with the first ever transatlantic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) airline flight (see www.travelnewsupdate.co.uk/article/490).
In an email to staff James Bermingham, CEO of Virgin Hotels, said: “We plan to re-open the hotel once a new owner is in place and we hope we can work together to give you priority on jobs as before”.
Appointed to administrate the collapse Geoff Jacobs, Managing Director at Interpath Advisory, said: “We will focus our efforts on working with stakeholders to facilitate a sale of this significant and attractive property for the benefit of the creditors of Lloyds Developments Ltd.
“Although the property is not actively on the market as yet, those with an interest should get in touch with the joint interim managers to register their early interest”.
