+ Paul Kehoe returns to Luton

A popular Managing Director of Luton Airport (LTN) from 2001–2005, when owned by TBI Plc, Paul Kehoe CBE is to return as the Board Chair of Luton Rising, the airport’s owner and part of Luton Council.

LTN is operated by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL) who have a contract until 2032. LLAOL is 51% owned by AENA, a Spanish Government venture, with investment company Infrabridge holding the balance.

Paul Kehoe has held numerous senior appointments in the air transport industry including Managing Director, Birmingham Airport, and CEO, the Gulf Air Group, Bahrain.  He is a former Chair of the West Midlands Growth Company and the Airport Operators Association (AOA), and has also held a number of non-executive directorships both in the UK and overseas.  He was appointed a CBE for services to aviation and the UK economy in the 2017 Birthday Honours.

Earlier in his career he spent eight years with the RAF as an air traffic control officer, and has further worked in the aircraft manufacturing and aviation support services sectors.

Kehoe said: “I am delighted to have come full circle back to Luton. The airport has changed significantly over the 18 years I’ve been away. The transformation of the town from a manufacturing base to a service economy is very evident and has created the momentum for even more change.

“I look forward to helping the Council and the Luton Rising team make a better future for the local community by consolidating the airport’s position as the vital economic air bridge for the borough and the wider region”.

It’s an interesting appointment. Luton is on the up and the Council has now gone for a non-political chairman of the airport, someone who knows the business. I wonder what the operators make of it. My understanding is they are in charge until 2032. Anne Smith Harpenden. Former travel trade.
