British Airways subsidiary CityFlyer, London City Airport’s main carrier, is to expand, but not in the usual way. Rumour has it that CityFlyer is to add a further two rows of seats to bring its Embraer 190 capacity up to 106 and reduce the legroom in Economy. With the aircraft’s limited locker capacity the airline is now offering free hold facilities for hand baggage.
CityFlyer is a separate company although 100% owned by BA. When the Embraer was introduced, replacing 112-seat Avro Regional Jets, a British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) deal was negotiated with the flight deck crew renumerated to a lesser extent than their ‘main line’ contemporaries and only two cabin crew required. Under CAA rules three are needed for over 100 passengers.
With the new arrangement a much more practical team can be provided to service the two-class operation.

Iâve a choice of CityFlyer or BA proper for Zurich. LCY has to be first option from central London offering a complimentary bar service â you can have tea, coffee, soft drinks, beer, wine, and spirits rather than just water and a snack in economy class. And it is easier to get too.
