Loganair chief goes

In a surprise move Jonathan Hinkles, Chief Executive of Loganair, has stepped down after more than seven years.

Writing on LinkedIn, Hinkles, who steered the Scottish carrier through the pandemic, said: “I’ve always thought that when the curtain falls, it’s time to get off the stage right away.”  With Robert Sinclair also about to leave London City Airport after a similar tenure this means that two senior posts in the UK air transport require filling at this time.

He said that it was time for a change “just as much for me as it is for Loganair”.

Loganair is owned by the brothers Stephen and Peter Bond, long-time investors in the aviation market.

In October 2022, the Glasgow-based airline said that advisers had been appointed to find a buyer. This is no longer the case.

When the business was put up for sale, it had been hoped that new owners would take over by mid-2023.

In a new statement the brothers said: "There has never been a time-bound reason for the sale of Loganair, and we remain committed to the company until both the right time and custodian to acquire the company is chosen".

They said the "suspension of the sale process" would allow them to complete a fleet renewal programme, which is expected by the first quarter of 2024.
