Following the highly successful February Aviation Club lunch with Sir Tim Clark, next up is Max Kownatzki, CEO of SunExpress, on Wednesday 17 April preceded by the Annual General Meeting at 11:00. Once again the venue is the Royal Over-Seas League, 6 Park Place, St James’s, London W1A 1LR.
Kownatzki was appointed CEO of SunExpress in April 2020. Recognised as the “World’s Best Leisure Airline” in 2022 by Skytrax, the holiday carrier was established in 1989 through a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. Today, it operates 200 routes across 35 mainly European countries.
SunExpress plans to more than double its fleet to over 160 aircraft within the next decade, including the recent order of up to 90 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
His reputation was built as Chief Strategy Officer, Jetstar Group, a subsidiary of Qantas Airways; Chief Commercial Officer, Eurowings Europe; and Senior Vice President Business Development, Eurowings Group. He was subsequently Senior Vice President Network & Partnership Management Hub Airlines, Lufthansa, with responsibility for Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines. He holds a commercial pilot's licence and a doctorate in business administration.
Kownatzki is followed on 13 June by Mehmet Nane, Chairperson, Pegasus Airlines, and 19 September Arjan Meijer, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation.
