A majority stake (50.01%) in Edinburgh Airport has been sold to French group VINCI Airports for £1.27bn.The current owner, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), will continue to hold the remaining minority stake.
When the airport was privatised in 2012 GIP paid £807.2m for its current stake. The two companies have a similar arrangement at Gatwick where VINCI also has 50.01% and GIP has the remainder. VINCI also owns Belfast International and operates over 70 airports globally across 13 countries with Gatwick its largest entity. It also owned London City Airport which it sold to the current stakeholders for £2bn in March 2016.
Edinburgh is currently the sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom, offering flights to more than 150 destinations across 40 airlines.
An agreement has been reached on further investment in the airport and its future development. The existing management team is remaining in place.
