Central London to one of its airports, via the Elizabeth Line

Finally, and at a cost of £18.9 billion, the Elizabeth Line is expected to open between Abbey Wood and Reading and Heathrow Terminal 4 on Sunday 6 November.

There are connections to London’s other airports at Liverpool Street (for Southend and Stansted), Farringdon (for Gatwick and Luton) and a convoluted change at Canary Wharf/Poplar for London City.

Currently the service to Heathrow Central Area (T2 & T3) is not consistent and expect a wait of up to 15+ minutes, with the alternate train going to either T4 or T5. The 30-minute Heathrow to Paddington peak Elizabeth Line fare of £10.20 is less than half the cost of the current £27 standard fare on the 15-minute Heathrow Express.

The trains themselves are very long, just over 200m, and likewise the platforms, and this is helpful in some ways with Elizabeth Line Liverpool Street access also at Moorgate station, and with it the Northern Line.  However, the Tottenham Court Road station is actually in Soho’s Dover Street.  It’s a long walk ‘underground’ from the other Northern Line branch and the Central Line.  The main Bond Street Station is in Hanover Square.  If you are making for Abbey Wood stay at the back of the train.  There is only one entrance.  As for Paddington the Metropolitan Line station is a considerable walk, and we wait to use the Bakerloo Line changeover, but it is likely to be over five minutes.

Typical train times include Heathrow T4 to Bond Street 44 minutes, Abbey Wood to Reading 1 hour 28 minutes, and Liverpool Street to Paddington in just 11 minutes, much quicker and far more comfortable than the alternative Circle/Metropolitan Line.
