The end of this month sees the annual motoring extravaganza at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, the late summer spectacle held on 27-31 August.Steeped in history, built by the nation as a thank you to the Duke of Marlborough and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, the lawns of Blenheim Palace will host a spectacular turnout of cars from a bygone age mixing with the designs of tomorrow.
Spread over five days (Tuesday-Saturday), day one is given over to a brand-new Jet Centre party ‘MotorAvia’ at the very close by Kidlington/Oxford Airport , the Wednesday Press Day, Thursday Concours d’Elégance , followed by Salon Privé Club day on the Friday, and finally a dynamic day of action for the whole family as the event winds up on the Saturday.
A spectacular 1956 Lister Maserati is set to be a star draw. Entered by a regular Salon Privé Concours entrant from Switzerland, ‘MER 303’ is the sole surviving fruit of a famous partnership between legendary driver Archie Scott-Brown and engineer Brian Lister. One of the most formidable motor racing teams of the 1950s, this small, lightweight and nimble sports racer was designed to house the new 2.0-litre Maserati A6GCS engine. Scott-Brown had the fingers of his right hand missing and needed to use his palm to drive. He was to die following an accident at the Spa F1 circuit age just 31.
