AND FINALLY: Educating Americans

With the 2024 NFL London Games taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and concluding with Giants v Panthers 10 November, Heathrow Airport has taken upon itself to try and educate visitors from across the Atlantic.

Here are some facts.

Heathrow offers the most routes from destinations in the USA of any European airport, providing fans of American sports with direct routes to see their favourite teams in action.

Heathrow’s Northern Runway is the longest active runway in the UK at 3,902 metres long (4,267 yards), 35.5 times as long as an American football field.

Heathrow is the UK’s international gateway and the most connected airport in the world, offering routes to 234 destinations in over 85 nations and regions.

Of the 31 cities in the USA that Heathrow offers direct routes to 28 are home to an NFL team. Collectively, those teams have won 41 Super Bowl trophies since the first championship game in 1967.

This year, Heathrow’s terminals have scored over 178,000 touchdowns and counting.

In 2024, more than 82 million passengers are expected to travel via Heathrow, over 1,100 times the capacity of New Orleans Saints’ home stadium, Caesars Superdome (73,208), where Super Bowl LIX will take place in 2025. The Spurs stadium is 62,850 and Arsenal/Emirates 60,704.
