The line that penned the term ‘six-star cruises’ is on the way back. Crystal Cruises says that it is now taking deposits for its inaugural season launching in early 2023.
Earlier this year, the British A&K Travel Group (Abercrombie & Kent) acquired the Crystal Cruises brand together with Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.
In a statement Jack Anderson, President, says that invitations have gone out to former guests offering first priority bookings on itineraries, stateroom and suite selections. No details as yet for the inaugural season launching in early 2023 with both ships in a Trieste shipyard undergoing major overhauls.
Crystal Cruises was founded in 1988 by the Japanese shipping company NYK introducing ‘Harmony’ which set new standards with what the company called “six-star quality”. They sold out to the gaming conglomerate Genting Hong Kong which collapsed earlier this year due to the pandemic. An auction in the Bahamas realised $25m for Crystal Symphony (1995) and $128m for Crystal Serenity (2003).
Very experienced and respected in the cruise industry Anderson had previously worked for Seabourn, Carnival Corp, Holland America Line and Windstar and prior to the failure had held a similar position with the Crystal line.
