King Charles rode the Luton DART cable driven transport link between the Parkway Station and airport just before Christmas but there is still no indication of when it might open.
Travel News Update’s Sharon Ross was amongst a very select group of VIPs and journalists chosen to join him for the less than three-minute journey. She reports that the ride was exceptionally smooth and will be of great convenience saving on the bus travel and vastly quicker. However, amongst the complications to move forward is the completion of the rail station interface, an integral part of the operation.
At the present time passengers coming from the south transfer by bus to the airport and have no need to cross to the southbound platform and the DART station terminal. This is not yet completed.
The media who attended the event were told that the opening date would be announced in the New Year, and that there would be ten weeks advance notice. This means, realistically, that there is little chance of it being operational before Easter. The DART will be chargeable at the same rate as the bus fare, currently £2.40.

A COMMENT was posted (and lost due to technical reasons) for which we are sorry but with King's visit security may have taken over and closed the footbridge. Escalators are being provided.
