Just in case you were considering flights from Gatwick with Flyr this summer the Norwegian airline filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday 1 February, and all flights were cancelled. www.travelnewsupdate.co.uk/article/86
This latest airline failure follows quickly on from the British regional carrier Flybe. What happens to its seven pairs of Heathrow slots remains to seen. www.travelnewsupdate.co.uk/article/113
Also going is Indian full-service carrier Vistara as owner TATA looks to merge the airline with the more “internationally-recognised” Air India, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has announced. AirAsia India is also being merged with Air India Express leaving the group with just two airlines, Air India & Air India Express.
Not considered a failure since no bookings have been taken, but new British start up airline Hans Airways seems to have stalled on the runway with a short statement stating that fulfilling the stringent financial criteria required by the UK CAA to commence scheduled operations has continued to hinder its launch plans. “This is despite satisfying all technical (AOC) aspects of long-haul airline operations and maintaining a solvent start up business since our inception in 2019,” it said.
No further news at this time, but the airline stays solvent with all creditors paid.
