Ryanair is to introduce Malta from Norwich, its latest UK airport on its route map. Flights from Norwich to Malta International Airport will launch on 1 April, followed by a route from Belfast International to the George Cross Island on 2 April.
Ryanair has announced what it says is its largest ever summer schedule for Malta, with a total of 67 routes.
Ryanair is also set to launch flights from Norwich to Alicante and Faro from April. See also TNU January www.travelnewsupdate.co.uk/article/504.
The new routes will add to Ryanair’s existing UK services to Malta from Birmingham, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester and Stansted.
The news comes as Malta’s flag carrier Air Malta prepares to cease operations at the end of March, to be immediately replaced by a new entity called KM Malta Airlines.
Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary was quick to point out the Dublin-based carrier’s commitment to the island.
“These three new routes reflect Ryanair’s dedication to providing Malta with the best travel experience at the lowest cost. Our $700m investment in the island and our 22% traffic growth highlights Ryanair’s commitment to Malta’s tourism growth and connectivity”.
