Southend Airport not affected by collapse of owner

The Southend Echo reports that Eskin, the current owner of Southend Airport, has fallen into administration.

But a deal, which secures the future of the airport, is unlikely to be affected by this move, with the ownership transition to Carlyle and Cyrus Capital Partners from Esken "progressing at speed".

The airport was well represented at the AOA dinner (see in this month’s TNU) with its traditional table, hosting airline representatives and other guests.

John Upton, CEO of Southend Airport, said: “Today’s announcement by Esken has no impact on LSA and its business as usual for all our passengers, airlines and teams here at the Airport.

"The ownership transition of London Southend Airport to Carlyle and Cyrus Capital Partners from Esken plc is progressing at speed and we’re all looking forward to the completion of this process very soon, which will further cement a financially strong future for our airport.

"With our busiest summer in five years coming up, we’re focused on serving the thousands of passengers who’ll be travelling with us each week to a range of wonderful destinations including Spain, The Netherlands, France, Portugal, and Switzerland.  Excitingly, our fast-growing winter programme for 2024/25 has also just gone on sale”.

The February edition of Travel News Update reported that the airport, badly affected by the pandemic, is now attracting new airlines and on Thursday 27 June it will celebrate a Jet Centre open day.

The airport is open 24 hours but during the night period 23:00 – 06:30 only aircraft classified with a Quota Count of 1 or less are permitted to take-off or land.

The change of ownership is unlikely to affect the airport’s summer programme.
